It’s Natural To Be Afraid and other short films

Well, it’s been a while! About time I dropped by and left you another little update!

Earlier in the month I went to a private screening of the short film It’s Natural To Be Afraid by Baracoa Pictures, a project I helped out on back in September. Apart from it being a great night and a chance to catch up with a few friends, the film was bloody fantastic. The screening was a chance for Baracoa to present their final piece to a select audience of cast, crew and close friends, followed by a short Q&A session.

There were two showings that evening and I must say I was so taken with the film, I stayed for both. I’m really impressed with what these guys have achieved. It’s Natural To Be Afraid is a beautifully crafted film, in terms of its script, its cinematography, its fractured timeline and its evocative soundtrack, scored by Bill Ryder-Jones of The Coral fame. It’s a film I’m proud to put my name to and thankful to have been a part of – well done guys!

Also showing that evening were a series of short films shot for charity selfharm.co.uk, another project I was lucky enough to have an involvement with. Although the shorts made for pretty tough viewing in terms of subject and content, again, they were skillfully, thoughtfully and sensitively put together.

These guys know their stuff and I’m very happy to have worked with them these past few months, I can only hope there’ll be more to come in the future!

It’s Natural To Be Afraid begins doing the festival rounds over the coming new year, so keep an eye out.
The selfharm.co.uk shorts are scheduled to show on Channel 4 in 2011, but you can watch the first in the series now at www.selfharm.co.uk
