Overdue Update: Video

Haven’t blogged many significant updates recently so will attempt to draw everything together in this post:

Sky Attack:

I’m painfully close to the final phase of editing this, but in an effort to conserve disk space, my tinkering has created some kind of time warp which causes every frame I move around 2 mins to process… and seeing as it’s an animation, there are a lot of frames to move.
I’ve also just recently popped my After Effects cherry, so hopefully there are some nice things I can achieve in the final phase now with a little less effort. We’ll see.

Dice Productions

I always find it awkward blogging about people who might possibly read what I have written, a bit like someone reading what you’ve written about them in your diary, except you’ve left your diary open… and on their desk.

The guys at Dice Productions approached me a couple of weeks ago to ask if I could help shoot some of the comedy scripts they’ve been keeping on file. Good news all round as I’ve been looking new ways to keep myself busy and the scripts are good/funny. Win!

I started work on the first one they sent through, but was probably giving it a bit more thought than required and so now have rethunk my approach and roped in another Chris to help me out. Together we’ve started putting together a shooting schedule and almost simultaneously several people have volunteered to act, though probably only 2… 3 at a push are needed.

The first half (comprised of stills) is pretty much there in terms of content, but will need further attention once the remaining footage is shot. Just simply stuff like adjusting the pacing, maybe some grading etc. Nothing major.

For now, myself and the other Chris will story board the latter half and I’ll have to arrange another meet with the Dice guys to check everything is still go.

DOF Adaptor

I recently discovered how easy it is to post photos to Tumblr via mobile phone so I have been posting pics of this already, just without any explanation. I’ve been toying with the idea of building a Depth of Field Adaptor for my camera to give it a more filmic look, as purchasing one is out of the question, having one custom built is cheaper but still expensive, so I’m opting to source the parts myself and see how things go. I’m still waiting for 3 final pieces to arrive before I can begin to assemble the adaptor:
- Focusing screen holder
- Step up ring adaptor
- Canon macro extension tubes

I’m trying to make it without an extra macro lens as I think my camera has a decent enough macro capability, but if I put it all together and find I need one, it won’t be a major set back.
